Speech, Language and Communication (SLC) Outreach Service
Hunters Hall Primary School provides a Speech, Language and Communication Outreach Service for Primary Schools in Barking and Dagenham who have a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Local Authority. We offer training and support at both Wave 1 and Wave 2 levels.
Central training takes place in out training room for both teachers and support staff. We offer a range of different training opportunities all of which are available for you to view on this site. If you would like to book places on any training please contact Karen O’Connor our Outreach Admin Assistant. Please see details below. We look forward to working with you and supporting your staff to ensure the best possible provision for Speech, Language and Communication for the children in your schools.
We work in partnership with our NHS Speech and Language Therapy colleagues and all NHS Speech, Language and Communication central training, including training for PVIs and settings, will also now be based at our Hunters Hall training hub.
The Makaton training has really helped me to support the children in the ARP. I now know that using signing alongside the spoken word is beneficial for all children.

The courses run by the NELFT (NHS) have helped me to understand what is ’age appropriate’ in language development and given me the tools to identify which children may need referring. I also got lots of ideas for activities to do with the children to improve their speaking, listening and memory skills.

‘The training was really useful as it highlighted the issues that students with SLCN face and I have been able to incorporate this into my teaching and will be able to train other staff on how to develop strategies to support their students. The hand book was extremely useful as it highlighted the different areas of language and how they impact on students, this is also gave me a better understanding of the problems they face with communication.’
